What is your favorite Holiday food memory?

Mine is my mothers Fresh Apple Cake. She made it for me at Thanksgiving every year.

This will be my 2nd Thanksgiving without my Mom, she died in July 2007 of Ovarian Cancer. Last year I didn't have the strength or desire to even pretend there was a Thanksgiving or Christmas. I just wanted them to be over with, it was hard to face them without her.

This year however, I'm going to do better for my family's sake. I have my Mom's recipe book and will be attempting to make this cake because it's a tradition we shared, just she and I. It's full of recipe clippings from years back, but this is the ONE recipe that means the most to me.

I would sit at her kitchen table and peel the apples because it hurt her hands to do it, and we would talk as she made the cake magic happen. Maybe my daughter will help me do it this year and we can start this tradition with the next generation.

I know as I smell it cooking, my thoughts will be of my Mother, and how much I loved all the Holidays she made so special.

Wow! Bless your heart...keep her memory alive and pass on what she taught you. I guess my favorite holiday food memory is my mother's (Miss Pauline's Southern Dressing). It's the best! Thanks for stopping by my blog and please come back soon. I love your blog and will definitely be back.

Hi Melinda, Found your wonderful blog today through Miss Janice. So sorry about your Mom. That must have been so hard. I hope you have a great holiday season this year. My sister Michele lives in B'mingham! She's a teacher at Vestavia Hills High School. It seems to be a small world in blogland. :)
Please stop by my brand new blog if you have time. It's not much yet. I'm still thinking of posting ideas. ~Warmly, Melissa

OK...I LOVE that cake too! I'm so glad you are going to continue sharing it over the holidays. I know Mama is looking down on you with a big smile on her face. :)

Dot...I miss you too.

Love, Sally

Melissa,

I live in Vestavia Hills and my daughter graduated from VHHS in 2007, we were very active in the band.

Small world isn't it. Maybe we know your sister, what's her name.

Thanks for stopping by. What is your blog address, I'm brand new to this too, but believe me you learn as you go.

Dear sister in law Sally,

I didn't know you were reading, guess I can't say anything bad about you. (which I wouldn't do at all)

No actually, I'm lucky to have a great sister-in-law like you. By the way you're the one that got me started doing this.

Thanks I think.

Miss Janice,

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. It was a tough choice to choose between my Mom's dressing or this cake, but my sweet tooth wins.

I really regret not having all of my Moms recipes written down. She made her dressing from her head and although I usually always helped her, I'm struggling to remember everything that went it in. Last year's was edible, but maybe I can improve on this years.

I've added you to my blog list.

With warmest regards,

Melinda

Hi Melinda, That is so neat! My sister is Michele Kusibab and she loves teaching at VHHS. I wonder if she knew your daughter as well. It is a small world. I also met another blogger who is about an hour from me here in NC.
Click on my photo and it takes you to my profile which has my blog's name. Then click on the name and it opens. I'm learning as I go too. My husband has helped with alot of it since he is the computer expert. LOL! You're on my favorites list. ~Warmly, Melissa
